"Background Sounds"
Background Sounds is an AV live performance.
The project is based on the Freesound.org website, which hosts a library of royalty-free sounds uploaded by its users.
The structure of the library was simple and intuitive: each sound was tagged and linked to others, making it easy to find through the integrated search bar.
The results of your search were displayed on the same page with a built-in audio player.
The options were simple: "play", "pause-stop", and "loop".
The principle of the piece was straightforward: navigate the library in search of "sounds" randomly.
Once an interesting sound was found, it was played on a loop.
A new tab was opened in the browser and the same process was repeated until the flux was complete.
Background Sounds was originally streamed via Livestream.com and screen-recorded with QuickTime.
The audio was amplified through the iMac speakers and recorded with an external microphone connected to the computer, capturing the ambient sounds as well.
